2018 Tobin – Glick

 

In the 50-55 AAA/Majors championship game The Heat from Maricopa went into the game undefeated and squared off against the 4 The Fallen from Mesa. Tied 16 all in the bottom of the 6th inning, 4 The Fallen consisting of ex military and first responders rallied to win forcing a last game. Where there were seven lead changes until the 4th inning. The Fallen took a three run lead in the bottom of the 6th. But, The Heat rallied to take a 24 to 20 lead into the bottom of the seventh. 4 the Fallen rallied in the last inning to win the Championship by 5 runs. Manager Carlos Martinez commented  “4 The Fallen were a very competitive team. We were lucky to win. Prescott has great weather and we had lots of fun. This was our third year in a row and we enjoy it every time we come up here. Our MVPs of the game were:  Eddie Soto, JJ Woeslaw, and Chuck Berry.”

In the championship game for the 60’s majors, Old School, consisting of four players players from Prescott including Bill McKnight, Mike Gault Jim Fisher, and Ken Van Keuren and the Phoenix area, defeated Ancients 22 to 9. Old School coach Ross Borland gave credit to his entire team including his pitcher Steve Gove, Bill McKnight who hit two home runs in the game, and special credit to all the ladies that supported the team. Ross was especially complimentary of the grounds crew and umpires. “Oh, and the weather.”

 

In the 55 AAA championship in their first visit to Prescott, Kingman defeated Thunder Struck 19-7. The Kingman team had six players from the city of Kingman but had one player from Las Vegas NV, one from Santa Clarita CA, and three from Bullhead City. Coach Dave Hawkins credited the win to his team defense. He went on to say “This was a wonderful tournament distinguished by the organization. The fields were great, the umpiring crew was very professional, and the games started on time. We’ll return to Prescott.”

 

In the 60 AAA championship Full Throttle from Phoenix defeated Resultz 20-13. Coach Mark Spencer said “Both teams were tired. I guess we were lucky enough to outlast them. They were a worthy opponent having beaten us earlier.”

Kingman SS swept the 55 AAA division and will take the number one seed into Sunday’s bracket play.  Thunderstruck and the Blaze play at 8:00, with the winner playing Kingman.
In the 60’s Majors, Old School played to a 3-0 pool play record, and will face the winner of the 8:00am game between Bucky’s and the Ancients.
In the 60’s AAA bracket, Rezults and Full Throttle will start a best of three at 9:15 for that Championship
In the 50+AAA/Majors division, the Heat earned the number one seed with a 3-0 record and will play 4 the Fallen at 8:00. The number 2 seed Old School will play the Legends.  Double elimination play will follow that.
